Mediation Areas
Four Key Areas of Mediation
Mediation services are broken down into four key areas:
- Pre-Suit Mediation provides a non-adversarial option to dissolving your marriage quickly and efficiently. It has proven to be an excellent alternative to litigation. All aspects of your divorce can be resolved through Mediation, including Community Property partition (dividing assets & debts), spousal support (if applicable), and co-parenting arrangements and support regarding the children, if any. Mediation aims to avoid the aggravation of litigation, as well as the tremendous time and expense involved. The aim is to reach a solution on mutually acceptable terms.
- Post-Suit Mediation recognizes that at some point during litigation each side realizes that there has to be a simpler way to resolve all of this conflict. SELA’s trained mediators can assist, and we will work with your attorney to get the case resolved by agreement so each side can move on.
- Modification Mediation is a process when circumstances change and it is necessary to make changes to a existing court order or judgment. Examples of this include changes that need to be made in the way you co-parent as children get older, if one parent shows a drastic change in income and modifications need to be made to child support, or if one parent needs to move a material distance away from the other parent.
- Family Law Mediation is a catch-all category that allows the SELA trained mediators to assist in resolution of family disputes including issues regarding grandparent rights, adoption and many other areas where conflicts exist and an amicable, negotiated solution is the best outcome for all involved.
At any of theses stages of mediation, our panelists are equipped to handle the following matters:
